Our Story
LOCATED IN HISTORIC CLARKESVILLE, GEORGIA
Lake and Laurel Company was established in the winter of 2022. Originally from Florida, my husband Tye and I traveled to the Clarkesville area with our sons for the past 25 years. Each summer we visited the lakes, mountains, campgrounds, and all things outdoors. Many of those years we worked at summer camps. Tye taught waterfront sports, and I was the resident pottery and art instructor. We all loved the hiking, camping, kayaking and outdoor activities the area had to offer. Our goal was to eventually retire in the mountains, and to explore the lakes, rivers, and trails. (I guess not yet!)
So, in November of 2020, we moved into our new Georgia home. After we settled in, the beautiful 2-story red brick building in downtown Clarksville went up for sale, we decided we could not pass it up. Buying the property and opening a business would give us a chance to live and work in a place we loved. Together, our childen have helped with the entire process of developing our business and working to provide a special shopping experience for our customers.
We are inspired by the idea of increasing Clarkesville’s local shopping options and providing an opportunity to feature fine art and local crafts. I believe in living local, shopping local and hiring local. Our business is open daily from 10-6, except Sunday.
As a former art teacher, Lake and Laurel offers me an opportunity to feature my own artwork with paintings that emphasize nature and God’s magnificent beauty.
At Lake and Laurel we showcase original pieces of art and design as well as fine art Giclee prints. The focus at Lake and Laurel is to introduce quality goods, inspired by nature that are often locally and regionally sourced. The exceptional inventory includes high quality products from artisans and carefully sourced items that keep with the theme of classic southern living.
Lake and Laurel is a brick-and-mortar store, and our purpose is to provide residents the opportunity to shop like they have in the past, at a local business, and in person. Meeting up with friends and family while shopping and spending time together is one of life's pleasures.
